Obituary for Mary Ann Suite

Mary Ann Suite, 86, died peacefully on December 15, 2022, after a long illness. She was born on July 6, 1936, to Bridget and William Chapones, was raised in Hoosick Falls, studied at Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing where she met her future husband, John. They married in 1957 and lived for a short time in Texas and Missouri before moving back to Hoosick Falls to raise their five sons. Mary Ann began working at Putnam Memorial Hospital, now SVMC, settling in the maternity ward. She was knowledgeable and experienced, but it was her kindness and calm demeanor that made her an outstanding labor and delivery nurse. Her patients and colleagues benefited from her ability to stay positively focused on the job.

Raising 5 boys was no easy feat but Mary Ann and John worked hard to make a happy life for their family which included a lot of lasagna and the dreaded tuna noodle casserole. She was present for the births of 6 of her 13 grandchildren, and an awesome Grammy, famous for her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She claimed there was no secret recipe, so they must have been made with love.

While raising their family, Mary Ann & John liked camping with the boys and John’s father, and as empty nesters they loved traveling. There were memorable trips camping in Maine, visiting John’s sister in Las Vegas & Reno, Disney World, and Germany to visit her youngest who was stationed there. As a retiree, she was a regular at the Senior Center for exercise classes and bus trips. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, and showed her love of animals by providing a loving home to many strays and shelter cats.

Mary Ann is survived by her 5 sons: John(Barb) in Pennsylvania, Bill(Mary) in Hoosick Falls, Kevin(Britten) and Tim(Colleen) in North Carolina, and Jeff(Barb) in Eagle Bridge; 13 grandchildren (Mary, Hannah, Nick, Rachael, Daniel, Michael, Travis, Grayson, Tyler, Cody, Sarah, Kearsten and Zach) and 9 great grandchildren( Zavier, Olivia, McKenna, Riley, Tucker, Illianna, Logan, Anderson and Lincoln). She also leaves her only sibling, William Chapones and his family, her Aunt Carolyn Bachorz, a variety of cousins, and her last rescued cat, Violet.
She is predeceased by her parents and her husband John.

The family would like to thank the staff at CNR for the compassionate care they gave Mary Ann for the last year and a half. Special thanks to Doctors Hutchinson, Rogge, and Carroll, and to Audrey and Nancy at CNR for their outstanding care. Donations in memory of Mary Ann Suite can be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury, VT or to The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls.
