Obituary for Neil Joseph Waytkus

Neil Joseph Waytkus, 71, a lifelong resident of Hoosick Falls passed peacefully Saturday November 19th.  He resided on Saratoga Street in Hoosick Falls with his wife Mary (Peer) Waytkus, they were married for forty-eight years.

Neil was born December 9, 1950, in Hoosick Falls to the late Albert and Rose (McEckron) Waytkus.  He attended St. Mary’s Academy Catholic School in Hoosick Falls graduating in 1970.  Neil joined Local 669, a sprinkler fitter union and worked for SRI Fire-Sprinkler, LLC, retiring after thirty-seven years in 2009.

Neil, a sports enthusiast, especially loved his Miami Dolphins and New York Yankees among many other aspects of sports.  He loved life in general and his garage. 

Neil, known as Piute to many, enjoyed visits from Neighbors and friends, some would challenge him to a game of cribbage.  Neighborhood kids and dogs would stop by for their twizzlers and dog bones.

Survivors include his wife Mary, daughter Julie (Mike) Richard, son Matthew (Crystal) Waytkus, three grandchildren Quinn and Kael Waytkus, Reese Richard, whom he adored.  Playing bucket ball, collecting coins, building his wheelbarrow planters, and tinkering in his garage was his joy.

He was predeceased by four brothers and is survived by seven siblings, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday November 30 at 11:30 am from the Immaculate Conception Church basement.  Family and friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00am until the start of the mass.  Burial will be at a later date followed by a Celebration of Neil’s life at his garage in the spring of 2023.

Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.  Memorial contributions may be made to either the Karen & Molly McGovern Memorial Fund, the EC Fund or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
