Obituary for Richard H. Stone

Richard H. Stone Sr., 80, passed away on Saturday October 1st, at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. He resided on Tamarac Road in Johnsonville with his wife Anna Margaret (Senecal) Stone.

Richard was born on September 12, 1942, in Springfield, MA, son of the late Homer and Alice (Butterfield) Stone. In 1962, Richard graduated from Vermont Technical College's School of Agriculture, Plant & Animal Science.  Most noteworthy, Richard worked for Tom Whittiker's Cattle Auction in Brandon VT, Shelburne Farms in Shelburne VT, Eagle Bridge Agrobusiness in Eagle Bridge, NY, and owned and operated Progress Acres Dairy Farm out of Hoosick Falls, NY.  Throughout his life, Richard was a Professional Cattle Showman, Cattle Judge, Auctioneer, Herdsman, Farm Manager, Commercial Contruction Worker, Finishing Carpenter, Welder, and Heavy Machinery Operator. He professionally managed, presented, and promoted the Brown Swiss Breed of Cattle at many auctions across the Northeast, including the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, MA, the Bown Swiss Breeders Sale in Cobleskill, NY, and as far down to the Florida Cattlemen's Association Convention. He was an active member of the New England Brown Swiss Association for many years. In 1972, his skill and work in increasing milk production in dairy cattle, gained him a Production Increase Award given by Dairy One - Dairy Herd Information Analysis. While he was a farmer for most of his life, Richard also enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, bird watching, hunting, and fishing.  

Survivors other than his wife Anna include their children Richard H. (Lisa) Stone Jr. of Hoosick Falls, NY, Lucretia M. Bailey of Albany, NY, Laurie A. (Jeffrey) Halter of Rochester, NY, grandchildren Sarah A. Bailey, Henry R. Bailey, Adam J. Stone, Raymond W. Niles Jr., and brother Robert Stone. He was predeceased by a brother Forrest Stone.

Funeral services will be held on October 8th, at 11:00 am, from the First Baptist Church on 80 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY 12090. While there will be no calling hours, all are welcome to join the family for Memorial Service at the church.  The Memorial Service will be followed by a potluck reception. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, who are handling the arrangements
