Obituary for Dorothy Ann Dennis

Dorothy Ann Dennis, 82, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at her daughter’s home on Rensselaer St. in Hoosick Falls. Dottie had been a resident of Whitehall until her son’s passing in March.

Dottie was born on September 27, 1939, in Rutland, VT to James T. and Mildred C. Day. She grew up in Whitehall as the eldest of six children. She met the love of her life, Leslie “Essy” Dennis, while in high school and married him in 1961 after she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Plattsburgh. Dottie and Essy raised three children in Whitehall and spent joyful summers camping at Lake Bomoseen Campground. Along with being a devoted wife and mother, Dottie was a loving, first grade teacher for more than 30 years at Whitehall Central School. She was so proud to have shared the passion for educating youth with her daughter, Karen, who followed in her mom’s footsteps as a teacher in Hoosick Falls. After her long career, Dottie spent her later years unselfishly caring for her son, even when she was not well herself. She never complained and provided loving support until his passing.

Dottie is survived by her daughter, Karen Tommasino, and son in law, Ralph Tommasino of Hoosick Falls, as well as four grandsons, Philip (Alicia) Tommasino of Latham, NY, Michael (Amanda) Tommasino of Clifton Park, NY, Christopher (Jhordyn) Tommasino of Petersburg, NY, and Steven Tommasino of Hoosick Falls, NY. Four beautiful great grandchildren also survive Madison, PJ, Emily and Ava Tommasino and two sisters Karen Gordon and Marcia (Charles) Hoffman. Her husband of 43 years, Leslie Dennis, her son, James Dennis, and her daughter Diane Stocker along with her parents and her siblings, Laraine Lee, James Day, and Nancy Roseboom have predeceased her. Those who loved Dottie and will miss her infectious smile find comfort knowing she will now be reunited with her family who passed before her.

A special thank you to the staff of Community Hospice for their support, especially her kind, compassionate nurse, Jamie Borge, who helped care for Dottie in her final days.
