Obituary for Shirley A. Thompson

Shirley A. Thompson, age 92 of Center White Creek, died February 26, 2022 at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY.

Shirley was born in Hoosick Falls, NY on November 25, 1929. She was the daughter of the late John J. Leonard Sr. and Marguerite Coonroadt Leonard. She was the wife of Franklin E. Thompson.

After graduating from Cambridge Central School, in 1947, Shirley worked for the New York Telephone Company as a telephone operator in the Cambridge and Hoosick Falls offices. She married her high school sweetheart, Franklin E. Thompson, on August 27, 1950, at Saint Patrick’s Church, Cambridge, NY.

Shirley enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 71 years include a son, Leonard J. Thompson (Debbie) of New Ringgold, PA and daughter Linda Thompson Sweet (Donald) of Eagle Bridge, NY. She is survived by a sister-in-law Joanne Leonard and five grandchildren, Christopher Thompson (Nina), Matthew Thompson (Leslie), Brian Thompson (Katherine), Jennifer Sweet Kliza (Jesse) and Lisa Sweet Borden (Michael). Shirley is also survived by 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Jack Leonard and a sister Patricia Leonard Ginder. 

It was Shirley’s wish to be cremated and not to have calling hours. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday March 3rd at 9:30 am from Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cambridge, NY. In lieu of flowers, those that desire may make donations to “The Cemetery Fund” at Saint Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park Street, Cambridge, NY 12816 in Shirley’s memory.  Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
