Winifred B. “Winnie” Restino, 97, passed away on Thursday February 17th at the Brookdale Fillmore Pond in Bennington, VT. Winnie resided on Hall Street in Hoosick Falls. She was the wife of the late Michael Restino.

Winnie was born on June 10, 1925, in Darwen, England, daughter of Richard and Martha Jane (Holden) Eccles. She was educated at schools in England. Winnie came to the United States in 1946 on a War Bride Ship. After settling in she graduated from the Troy School of Beauty Culture and received her Beauticians License. Throughout her career she remained self-employed. Winnie was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and a member of the Senior Citizens both in Hoosick Falls.

The simplest things brought Winnie great joy. She loved traveling with her husband, she especially loved Hampton Beach, where she and Mike spent many a week at the sea shore. Winnie also traveled abroad, she made several trips back to England where she stayed with her favorite cousin Belle and her family. Even into her eighties Winnie was able to go three more times staying for six weeks at a time. She never neglected family obligations right to the end. She was a constant presence at Weddings and family gatherings, where she was usually the life of the party. People of all ages seemed to flock to her to hear her stories. Last but not least, Winnie was a huge New York Yankee fan, and she could dazzle any sport enthusiast with her knowledge of the game and Yankee players especially Derek Jeter.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins. Winnie was predeceased by her husband Michael, her God son Fr. Joseph Scerbo S.A., brothers-in-law Thomas, Joseph, John and Angelo Restino, sisters-in-law Angelina Scerbo, Antoinette (Nina) Pitcheralle, Marie Restino, Nancy Benkoski and Lucy Allen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday February 22, at 11:00 am, from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the start of the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Immaculate Conception Church or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, who are handling the arrangements.

A special thanks to the staff BAYADA Hospice and Brookdale Fillmore Pond, their compassion and professionalism made her final days much easier for Winnie and her family.
