Obituary for Mary A. Medvetz
Mary A. Medvetz, 100, of Hoosick Falls, NY, peacefully passed away with her family present Monday, October 18, 2021 of natural causes. Mary was born at home on August 15, 1921 in North Plainfield, NJ, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Panio) Triano. She graduated from North Plainfield High School, class of 1939.
Mary worked in Washington, DC, in the Office of the Undersecretary of War during WWII and then at Raritan Arsenal in NJ as an executive secretary where she met her future husband Francis (Chuck). She retired as an executive secretary in 1986 from Bennington College.
Mary married Francis R. Medvetz on September 22, 1951. She was a homemaker for many years, happily raising 6 children. In 1961, the Medvetz family began spending the summer months at the Holiday Horse Farm in White Creek, NY which led to moving to Hoosick Falls, NY in 1966 from NJ.
Mary was active in the community, serving as President of the St Mary’s Academy Home-School Association, a member of the Elks Auxiliary, the Hoosac Villagers Craft Group, and on the Board of Directors of the Town of Hoosick Community Center for 27 years.
Mary enjoyed her family, home ,and travel. She got the travel bug as a single young woman traveling the USA. She traveled extensively with her husband. She loved her visits to Las Vegas and spending the winters in Alvor Portugal and Sahuarita, AZ. She enjoyed being creative by painting, quilting, knitting and many other handicrafts. In recent years, she stayed in touch with family and friends on her IPad.
Her children remember her as a saver of everything , a ‘Martha Stewart’ ahead of her time, and always with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She loved all games and hated to leave any party. She loved everyone and everyone loved her.
She was predeceased by her dear husband of 61 years Chuck, and her 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
She is survived by her six children: Robert (Mary), Suzanne (Gary), Elizabeth (Dan), Mimi (Ron), Richard (Maria), and Kenneth (Beth). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-children, as well as many nieces and nephews.
