George Leonard “Gigi” Ropitzky, 90, passed away on Saturday, October 2, at his residence on South Street in Hoosick. He resided there with his wife Judith (Stewart) Ropitzky.

George was born on April 2, 1931, in Easton, New York, son of the late Joseph and Eva (Swyst) Ropitzky Sr. He was employed at Union Carbide in Bennington, Vermont, as a machine operator adjuster until his retirement.

He enjoyed many, many hobbies. These included going for walks along the road by his house, feeding and watching the birds, “tinkering” around the house, celebrating Christmas and its many traditions, mowing the lawn, enjoying a good cup of coffee, gardening, looking at photos of his multigenerational family, reading old magazines about Vermont, cooking (especially at Thanksgiving), crossword puzzles, taking photos, visiting with people, attending his great-granddaughter Brooke’s games, and really, really enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors other than his wife Judith include their daughters Kathryn (Michael) Caron of Proctorsville, Vermont, and Marisa Crumb of Cambridge, New York, grandchildren Sonja (Andrew) Davies, Jillian Norton, Andrew Tonnesen, and Evan Crumb, great-grandchildren Brooke Tonnesen, Mariel Davies, and Cole Davies; he is also survived by six nieces and three nephews. George is predeceased by a sister Ann Lesnick and brothers Joseph Ropitzky Jr., Walter, and John.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 8, at 12:00 pm, from Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Church, 198 Ontario Street, Cohoes, New York. Burial will follow the service in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery on Middletown Road in Waterford, New York.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, October 7, from 5:00–7:00 pm at Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret’s House and Hospital for Babies, through the funeral home.
