Hubert Auxilius Loretan “Herbie”, aged 85, a long-time Hoosick Falls resident passed peacefully on April 25th, 2021 surrounded by his beloved children, Mary, Bill, Gayle and Amy. Herb was a dedicated father to Mary Jackson-Dres and David Dres, William and Susan Loretan, Gayle and Paul Donohue, Amy and Harry Gross. He was a loving grandfather to Lauren and Bradley Gross, Mary Donohue and Parker Bray, Peter Donohue, Brittany Jackson, William Miles and Angelica Jackson, Karoline and Rachael Loretan. Herb was a loving brother to Jack and Wanda Loretan, Lori and Mike Hendrickson and Tom Loretan. Herb will be remembered as a kind, warm adventurous man who never met a stranger he didn’t embrace. His influence in HF and beyond was far-reaching. He had friends all over the world.
Herb was born in Athol, MA to Hubert and Lydia (Dubovik) Loretan and predeceased by his loving wife Margaret “Peggy” Loretan (Ruditis).
Herb owned and operated Ruditis Home Appliances in HF. He was a well known pilot in the Cambridge and Bennington area, and he flew for the US Air Force and the National Guard with pride. He was a member of the HF Veterans Association and a local Kiwanian. He attended Athol High School, UMass Amherst, American International College, earning degrees in engineering and business administration. He was also a staunch supporter of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Saturday, May 1st: Prior to the start of the Memorial Mass at 11am, friends are invited to visit with the family from 10am to 11am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Hoosick Falls, NY. The Memorial mass will begin promptly at 11am. Military honors immediately follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to join the family after the services for light lunch and refreshments at the Hoosick Falls Country Club.
