Obituary for Joyce A. Appel

Joyce A. Appel, 84, of Hoosick, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday April 11, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY. following a brief illness.

Born in North Petersburgh , NY on August 6, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William W. Jones and Ella Mae (Bickford) Jones. She attended North Petersburgh Graded School and Walter A. Wood High School.

She was the wife of the late Robert W. Appel Sr. whom she met while in high school and married on April 1, 1955. Together they raised a family of 5 sons, Robert Jr., Brian, Dennis, David and Michael.

The true love of her life was her family, she was proud to watch them grow as individuals and enjoyed watching all of the activities that they participated in. Joyce’s family was always her top priority. She also had a great love of animals, especially her backyard birds that she watched daily from her window.

In her earlier years of marriage she was a caregiver for many children from numerous families in the area in addition to raising her 5 rambunctious boys. Later in life her biggest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her husband and son Brian, Joyce was predeceased by 3 brothers. Forrest, Harold and William Jones and 1 sister, Rachel.

She is survived by 2 brothers, Arthur and wife Florence of Oklahoma City, Allan and wife Shirley of Haysville, Kansas and 1 sister Corina and husband William of Hoosick Falls, NY.
Four sons- Robert Jr. and partner Debbie Jones of Pittstown, NY, Dennis and wife Chris of North Adams, Mass, David of King of Prussia, PA, Michael and JoAnn Appel of Bennington, VT., and Sue Ouelette, partner of her late son Brian, of Hoosick, NY. There are also 6 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren. Several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 17th , 2021 at the Mahar Funeral Home in Hoosick Falls, NY. Calling hours will begin at 9:00am with a brief service of remembrance to be held at 10:00am. A private graveside service will immediately follow at the Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh, NY.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Joyce’s memory can be made to The National Audubon Society in care of the Mahar Funeral Home 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.
