Obituary for Barbara A. Filkins (Dorr)
Barbara A. Filkins (Dorr), 84, of West Hoosick passed away March 22, 2021 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Hoosick Fall, NY. She was the wife of the late Myron C. Filkins Sr, who predeceased her.
Barbara was born July 5, 1936 in Cambridge, New York to Hugh and Avis (Dillant) Dorr. Barbara graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a B.S. in Nursing. She served in various roles as a RN from graduation until her retirement, helping countless individuals every day.
Barbara was also a farmer and sheep breeder. She loved horses, Shetland sheep dogs, and Australian shepherds. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, board games, and beating all comers at cards. She was an empathetic listener who loved spending time with friends and family, and traveling. Barbara was a joyful servant of the Lord and was an active participant in the Hoosick Falls First Baptist Church community.
Survivors include her sons, Gary D. Filkins of Orangeburg, SC, Myron C. Filkins Jr of Hoosick Falls, NY, Jonathan E. Filkins of Hoosick Falls, NY, and Stephen H. Filkins of Bad Aibling, Germany, multiple grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held April 9 at 10:30am at Hoosick Falls First Baptist Church, 80 Main St. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, in Hoosick Falls, NY. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
