Obituary for David O. Towne

David O. Towne died Monday, November 30, at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home on Babcock Lake Road, where he resided with his loving wife of 64 years, Alice M. (North) Towne.

David was born on November 11, 1934, in Pittsfield, VT, son of the late Richard and Avis (Brink) Towne. He attended school in Vermont and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served from 1954-1957, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was later employed as a truck driver with the teamsters and worked for Roadway in Glenmont, NY, until his retirement in 1991. David loved his family; he enjoyed carpentry and working on his elaborate Christmas Village display, which he liked to share with everyone.

David is survived by his wife and three children, Deborah (Leo) Guerin of Babcock Lake, David (Krista) Towne of Alaska, and Dianne (Kerry) Magisano-Olson of Arlington; his brother, Willard (Mary) Towne of Watervliet and step-sister, Marion ‘Artie” Boomhower of Valley Falls. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Jennifer (Billy) Marcoux, Michael (Michelle) Guerin, Joshua (Amber) Magisano, Amiah and Ethan Olson, Andrew, David, Amanda, Aksel, Gauge, and Signe Towne; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and three ‘bonus daughters’, Mary D. Callahan, Marie Ulmen, and Susan Abbot; all of whom will sorely miss their beloved Poppy. David is predeceased by his sisters Joyce Lewis, Patricia Grogan, Jean Hale, and Sharon Hoag, his brothers, Richard, Marvin, and Francis Towne, and his grandson, Tyler Marcoux.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the Hoosick Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Mahar Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tyler Marcoux Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY.
