Obituary for Dennis L. Perry
Dennis L. Perry, 86, passed away on Wednesday August 26th at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. He resided on Cobble Hill Road in White Creek, New York where he had lived for the last several decades of his life. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Bortell Perry.
Dennis was born on September 4, 1933, in Patterson, New Jersey, son of the late Norman and Marie (Barbaro) Perry. He grew up in North Haledon until he attended college at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania where he met his future wife, Joan. After graduating college, Dennis was drafted by the United States Army. Before leaving for his stateside tour of duty, he and Joan married. Upon release from his military service, Dennis taught history for a couple of years. Captivated by the excitement of Wallstreet, he became a stockbroker in New York City before eventually moving to upstate New York where he continued his business as a stockbroker. He was employed by LPL Financial and was actively working until the day that he died.
While his main enjoyment was derived from working, he also enjoyed gardening and hobby farming. In his years on Cobble Hill, he had extensive gardens that included grapes, fruit trees and nut trees. Over the years, he raised cows, sheep, chickens, geese, and ducks. He always had a mastiff or herd of cats at his heel. He had a daily routine of breakfast at Jean’s diner. Dennis and Joan dined weekly at the Man of Kent. Sundays at The Man were a pleasant family time with grandchildren. Dennis enjoyed spending time with his friends from high school who had also moved up to the area. Dennis was also a member of the Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his son Alex (Beth) Perry, and his grandchildren Amy, Allison and Megan Perry. He was predeceased by a sister Norma Travis.
The arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, New York. The services will be private but there will be a service memorializing Dennis during the summer of 2021.
