Obituary for Elizabeth Clara Peer

Elizabeth Clara Peer, lovingly called Betty by her friends, was carried to her afterlife by the angels on
Wednesday, January 22, 2020, as she slept peacefully. On Tuesday, Betty was surrounded by her
loving family. She shared her smile and a few words. Betty was a resident at The Center for
Rehabilitation and Nursing in Hoosick Falls. The gentle and kind nursing staff looked after Betty for 4
and a half years.

Betty, born July 22, 1927, was the daughter of the late John and Eda Bovee. She grew up in
Wynantskill, NY, and attended Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY. She was an employee of New
York Telephone, first working out of Troy, NY, then Bennington, VT, and retired from the Troy, NY
offices. Betty was with the phone company for over 40 years. She loved to travel with fellow operators,
visiting faraway places like Arauba and Paris. She spent many summers camping with her family. She
also loved the beach, spending vacations at Hampton Beach, NH, where she had worked summers as
a teenager.

She married her late husband, George Peer (deceased 2002), January 17, 1951. They resided at the
family home on Munsell St. in Hoosick Falls, NY. Betty enjoyed being a homemaker. She was active in
the Home Bureau and communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. Betty
loved to entertain in their home and be the life of any party. She had a beautiful, contagious smile and
her bright spirit was always willing to help others. She was an amazing cook and baker. Her baked
beans, refrigerator pickles, Dover cakes, and coffee can bread will be made by friends for years to
come. Betty was the neighborhood “egg lady”, her home being the drop off point for fresh eggs from a
local farmer.

Betty is predeceased by her youngest brother, George Bovee (Alethea). She is survived by her younger
brother, Jack (Miriam), and three children she and her husband lovingly raised together, Mary (Neil
Waytkus), Dan, and Patty (JP Conway). Betty and George were blessed with grandchildren, Julie (Mike
Richard), Matt (Crystal Waytkus), and Cori (Albert Schnide), and a step-grandson, John(Molly) (step
son of Patty), who will all miss her dearly. She was great grandmother to Quinn, Kael, Reese, Leah,
Ben, and step great grandsons Shayne (Julie and Mike) and Ryan (step grandson of Patty). She is also
survived by several cousins, nephews, and nieces. Betty had a special, loving friendship with her
Munsell St. neighbor, Rosemarie Rogers, whom the family will always consider one of them. Betty
made friends everywhere. She had a sparkling and glittering personality that drew in old and new
friends. She was a beautiful person, whose soul now lives with Jesus, whom she dearly loved.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude and thank you to the nurses and staff at The Center
for their love and the care that Betty was given. There will be a time of remembrance with the family on
Friday, January 31, 10:30 am to 12:00 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 130 Main St., Hoosick
Falls. As Betty wished, a Catholic Mass will follow at noon, with a reception immediately afterwards in
the adjoining hall. All are welcome. The family has a private burival planned for the spring.

Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to The Residents Council at The Center for
Rehabilitation and Nursing through the office of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls,
NY 12090.
