Obituary for William Leslie Sweeney

William Leslie Sweeney, Age 63. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Billy) L. Sweeney. Billy suffered a severe heart attack on Wednesday afternoon while on his way to meet friends. A lifelong resident of Rensselaer County, Bill developed many friendships, both professionally and personally.

Bill was an artisan welder and machinist who was widely respected for his trade-craft by many local heavy equipment operators. Billy loved most things outdoors, his zeal for life was apparent to all who knew him. His passion for fishing and hunting was the genesis for adventures shared with his many friends. Most who knew Billy can instantly recall a humorous story, often times involving fireworks, or a boat, or a hot rod car that left an indelible imprint on our memories. Smile for our departed brother.

Bill is the son of the late Jack Sweeney and Shirley Hayes Sweeney Dapson of Center Berlin, NY. He is survived by his son Tyler Sweeney, Tazwell, TN, sisters Colleen Champagne on Duxbury, MA, Eliza Coleman of Park City UT, and brother Patrick Sweeney of Berlin NY. Additionally, Billy leaves his nephews Chase Coleman, Jack Champagne and Ryan Sweeney as well as nieces Whitney Coleman and Hailey Champagne. Bill leaves behind a litany of friends who he cherished and we thank you for your love and support.

Services will be held at the family camp on Dyken Pond, Sunday September 2nd at 2pm. The camp is located at 121 East Shore Drive, Petersburg NY 12138. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the lake with refreshments immediately following the service. Offsite parking and transportation will also available.
