Obituary for Burton E. "Burt" Barber Jr.

Burton E. “Burt” Barber Jr., 93, passed away on Thursday November 16th at the Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York. He resided on State Route 22 with his wife of seventy years, Helen A. (Mitchell) Barber.

Burt was born in Pittstown, New York, on September 26, 1924, son of the late Burton E. and Rosena (Rowland) Barber Sr.. He attended schools in Pittstown. Burt attended auto mechanic school in NYC and worked part time at his Uncles deli to support himself during that time. He also worked at the arsenal in Watervliet to support the war effort. Burt drove bus all his life driving for, Hoosick Falls Central School, Yankee Trails for sixteen years and Dufor in Bennington, Vermont. He also drove for the American Redcross. Burt enjoyed driving and working on antique cars. He and his wife Helen spent winters in Florida for the past twenty-five years.

Survivors other than his wife Helen include their children Steve (Cathy) Barber of Glenmont, NY, Michael (Michele Frazier) Barber of Mt. Ulla, NC and Marybeth (Rick) Roy of Bennington, VT, sister Carolyn Wilwol of Hoosick Falls, grandchildren Nick, Steven, Roxanne and Carey Barber, Ricky and Bradley Roy and Kenneth Barber, great grandchildren Kenrick and Ayla Roy, Billy, Michaela and Reese Barber. He is predeceased by his eldest son Bruce, sister Bernice Stoppello and two brothers Bernard and Walter Barber.

A mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday November 22 at 11:00am form the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls on Monday November 21 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
