Obituary for William J. "Bill" Flynn

William J. “Bill” Flynn, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 3rd, at his home on Route 67 in Walloomsac, where he resided with his wife of fifty-five years, Patricia (Herrington) Flynn. Bill was born October 8, 1937 at the original Hoosick Falls Health Center on Hall Street in Hoosick Falls to the late Edward and Mary (Harrington) Flynn.

His education spanned from the one roon school house on Cottrell Road in Walloomsac to the Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls. Bill served eight years in the New York National Guard and attended the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls.

Bill began his working career in 1955, joining his brother Pete and later, his brother Nick at the Ploygraphic Company in North Bennington. Starting as a “flyboy” apprentice he rose to become a Vermont licensed Journeyman Printer Operator. Upon Polygraphics closing he was employed be CHEMFAB on Northside Drive in Bennington and later in North Bennington. Due to health issues he retired in 1994. Although out of the work force he maintained great friendships with many of his co-workers throughout his life right up to the time of his death.

Bill was a talented self-taught wood worker, and enjoyed tinkering in his barn, taking Scout rides to visit the neighbors and took great pride in maintaining his buildings and grounds. Most any morning he could be found at Jeans Diner where he felt very at home enjoying good food and the company of its workers and customers.

His greatest pleasures were time spent with his grandchildren, be it at school functions, sporting events or Sunday dinners. Always upbeat with a word of encouragement or a needed hug and a squeeze, he used his Irish humor and temperament to great effect.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Edward “Pete” Flynn.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, his children Michael Flynn of Hoosick Falls, Valerie (Thomas) Cassidy of Shushan, NY and Edward (Heather) Flynn of Hoosick Falls. He is also survived by his sisters Anne Marie (John) Guile, Rose Marie (Richard) O'Dell and brother Nicholas (Judy) Flynn, all of Hoosick Falls. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Ellen and Anna Cassidy, Emily and Megan Flynn and Sarah Flynn.

Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
