Obituary for Jinnie I Leonard

Jinnie I Leonard, 89, a resident of Richmond Avenue, Hoosick Falls, died peacefully at the Hoosick Falls
Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on June 22, 2014.
Born on June 3, 1925 in Middle Granville, New York, she was the daughter of Frederic Morse and Cora
(Crosier) Morse. She received her early education in Granville. During World War II, Jinnie worked at the
Behr - Manning Industries in Watervliet, NY. Following the war, she was employed as a telephone
operator in Troy, NY.
Jinnie married her husband of 63 years, Philip Leonard, on April 5, 1951 in a military wedding in
Arkansas. For many years she worked as a customer service representative at KeyBank in Hoosick Falls,
and in later years volunteered at the Hoosick Falls Health Center.
Jinnie’s zest for life and love of adventure was evident in many of her passions. She loved to travel
throughout the world and she and Phil visited over 30 countries on 6 continents as well as almost every
state in the U.S. She enjoyed dancing with her husband at various venues, playing cards with family and
friends, and trips to casinos. But most of all, Jinnie enjoyed spending quality time with family, including
her husband, children, grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren, who showed great
excitement when seeing her, anticipating the hidden surprises in her pocketbook.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Fred (and Janet) from Nebo, North Carolina, a daughter,
Sue (and Greg) of North Bennington, VT, a grandson and wife, Chris and Lauren Maguire of Arlington,
VT, a granddaughter, Kara, of Lafayette, Colorado, and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Hogan
Maguire, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jinnie was predeceased by two
brothers, Oliver and David, and a sister, Clara.
There will be no calling hours or service but instead, at Jinnie’s request, there will be a private “family
celebration of her wonderful life”. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahar Funeral Home, 43
Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY.
